GOLDEN GATE FERRY HOSTS 1906 EARTHQUAKE SURVIVORS FERRY TRIP

For survivors of the 1906 Earthquake, Thursday, April 18, 2002, marks the 96th Anniversary of the "Quake" that rocked San Francisco. To honor the 1906 Earthquake Survivors, the Golden Gate Ferry Division is providing its annual special commemorative ferry ride. The ferry departs from the Golden Gate San Francisco Ferry Terminal (behind the San Francisco Ferry Building) at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 18, 2002.

The Ferry Division has sponsored this memorable excursion for 24 years. It has become a tradition among '06 Earthquake Survivors; a time for reminiscing, visiting with other quake survivors, and swapping stories of the past and present. This special commemorative ferry ride provides the setting for remembering all the heroes, especially the emergency assistance offered by tug boats, fireboats, ferry boats and military vessels to the people in San Francisco after the '06 quake.

The special ferry ride is a "By Invitation Only" event intended for those who are ninety-six years of age or older as of April 18, 2002, and were in the Bay Area at the time. Six survivors have responded so far that they will attend the event. Last year¹s event hosted about 24 Earthquake Survivors.

Media Representatives call 415/257-4558 to confirm your attendance. North Bay Media representatives can catch the ferry departing Larkspur at 8:45 a.m. sharp. The ferry will travel to San Francisco and depart for the commemorative ride from San Francisco at 10 a.m. After the ride, the ferry will return to Larkspur at 12:15 p.m.
